Obverse description Right-facing diademed and draped bust effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose engraver's initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation. The circumferential legend 'ELIZABETH II SOLOMON ISLANDS 5 DOLLARS' arcs around the upper and right fields. Below the bust, the denomination specifications '2 oz' and 'Ag 999' appear to the left of the date '2018', all rendered against a finely finished antique field.

Additional information

The Lotophagi — the "lotus-eaters" of Homer's Odyssey — appear in one of the epic's most compressed episodes: three of Odysseus's scouts eat the lotus fruit, lose all desire to return home, and have to be dragged back to the ships by force. The whole encounter takes under a dozen lines. Solomon Islands has mined this and similarly brief Homeric moments extensively for its collector bullion program, pairing .999 silver with classical mythology in a long-running series aimed squarely at the thematic bullion market of the 2010s.
