Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and draped, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation. The legend NIUE ISLAND and ELIZABETH II arcs across the upper field, while the denomination 5 DOLLARS and the date 2019 appear in the lower field. The fineness mark Ag 999 is incused to the left of the portrait, and an ornate acanthus and floral scroll panel occupies the right portion of the obverse field, separated from the effigy by a vertical dividing line. The mint mark of the Mint of Poland appears as a small cartouche below the queen's neck.

Additional information

Niue has functioned since the 1990s as a licensing vehicle for the New Zealand Mint and various private bullion programs, issuing coins with no meaningful connection to the island's roughly 1,600 inhabitants. This piece belongs to that commercial tradition — a collectible silver round dressed in sovereign coinage formalities.

Michelangelo completed the Vatican Pietà in 1499, aged 24. It remains the only work he ever signed.
