Additional information

This piece belongs to a wave of Commonwealth commemorative silver issued in the mid-2000s targeting the collector market rather than circulation, with Fiji serving as a convenient issuing authority for coins that had no practical connection to the islands. The image draws on a well-documented 1926 photograph taken shortly after Elizabeth's birth on 21 April of that year — a birth that was entirely unremarkable at the time, as her father was then Duke of York with no expectation of ever reaching the throne.

Edward VIII's abdication in December 1936 changed everything. George VI's reluctant accession made that infant the heir presumptive overnight.
