| Reverse description | Richly detailed high-relief composition depicting a scene from Homer's Odyssey, specifically the episode of the Cattle of Helios. At the top of the field, the solar deity Helios is shown as a radiant armored figure riding above storm clouds, with sunrays emanating behind him. To the upper left, a Greek trireme sails upon stylized waves. In the middle ground, a herd of sacred cattle with long horns is prominently rendered. Two seated male figures, identified as companions of Odysseus, flank a central campfire over which a slaughtered ox is being roasted on a spit. The border features alternating Greek meander ornamental patterns and scrollwork, with two inset medallions inspired by ancient coins — one depicting Athena and the other an owl. The arc legend 'THE ADVENTURES OF ODYSSEUS' runs along the upper border in runic-style lettering, with 'HELIOS' inscribed at the base of the design in the same stylized script. |
