Gwendolyn is one of several coins in Niue's ongoing collaboration with the Polish mint, CIT, and various private designers producing small-format gold issues aimed squarely at the collector market. Niue's arrangement — using its Commonwealth-granted issuing authority while producing nothing domestically — has made it one of the most prolific novelty bullion issuers of the 2010s, with output bearing no relationship to the island's population of roughly 1,500.
