| Reverse description | The reverse presents a bold convex composition commemorating the Klondike Gold Rush of 1896. In the upper field, the legend GOLD RUSH is inscribed in large raised letters, with a crossed pickaxe and shovel motif incorporated between the two words, and KLONDIKE 1896 lettered beneath in a secondary arc. The lower portion of the reverse features a naturalistic, colored depiction of a gold panning scene: a textured mound of blue-green colored gravel and riverbed sediment, rendered in applied color enamel, fills the lower concave field, upon which several realistically modeled gold nuggets are scattered in gilded relief, evoking the alluvial gold discoveries of the Yukon. A large circular concave sun dominates the upper centre of the field, with birds in flight lightly engraved against its polished surface. |
