Additional information

Tokelau's coinage program has always been somewhat anomalous — the territory has no indigenous monetary tradition and issues coins almost exclusively for collector markets, with New Zealand dollars serving actual daily transactions. This 1991 piece honoring Eisenhower was released the year the Soviet Union dissolved, a timing that gave retrospective weight to Eisenhower's Cold War presidency and his farewell warning about the military-industrial complex.
