Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as sculpted by Raphael David Maklouf, wearing the George IV State Diadem and a draped neckline. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and crown. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left rim and COOK ISLANDS along the right rim. Cook Islands produced a sustained run of collector-oriented copper-nickel $5 pieces in the late 1980s and early 1990s, largely marketed through Franklin Mint-style distribution channels rather than domestic circulation. Most never saw a cash register.
