| Obverse description | The crowned shield of the national arms of Niue occupies the central field, quartered with symbols representing the Southern Cross stars, three sailing vessels, a coconut palm with a yellow-crowned parakeet, a sheaf of grain, crossed hammer and pick, and a woolly sheep. The shield is surmounted by the St. Edward's Crown and flanked on either side by native fern fronds serving as supporters. The legend NIUE appears along the left periphery and the date 1989 along the right, both in upright Latin lettering. |
