The Czech Lion series, struck for Niue by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou, has become one of the more commercially successful bullion programs to emerge from Central Europe in the past decade — notable less for its issuing authority than for the mint behind it. Niue's arrangement as a Pacific island territory of New Zealand issuing legal tender for European bullion is a fiscal convenience that dozens of private mints have exploited since the early 2000s.
The 2022 edition continues an annual series that began in 2018, with each year's dies cut fresh rather than carried over.
