Obverse description Central field features the Coat of Arms of Niue, a quartered shield displaying four stars of the Southern Cross, a sailing vessel held by a hand, a coconut palm, a shell, and crossed tools, all surmounted by a Tudor crown. The shield is flanked on either side by laurel and fern branches forming a wreath. The legend NIUE appears to the left and the date 1996 to the right, arcing along the upper periphery in Latin script.
