| Obverse description | Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the design by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation, set against a colored iridescent blue-toned field. The oval flan is framed by an ornate relief border featuring laurel and oak branches, crossed swords, and an imperial orb surmounted by a cross at the apex. Below the portrait, the legends ELIZABETH II and NIUE are inscribed in two lines, with the denomination 5 DOLLARS displayed on a decorative scroll cartouche at the base. | Reverse description | Full-length colored portrait of Catherine the Great (1729–1796), Empress of Russia, depicted in imperial regalia including a white ermine-trimmed robe, blue sash of the Order of Saint Andrew, and holding a golden sceptre in her left hand while extending her right arm outward. The central colored image is set against a softly toned background featuring ghosted relief figures and a cartographic motif. The ornate silver border is decorated with gilt oak and laurel branches, and two inlaid red zirconia crystals are mounted at the lateral midpoints.
