| Additional information |
The Avro Lancaster flew 156,000 sorties over occupied Europe between 1942 and 1945, dropping roughly 618,000 tons of bombs — more than any other Allied aircraft of the war. The Solomon Islands has no historical connection to the Lancaster or the RAF, a common arrangement in the modern commemorative bullion market where issuing authority is licensed to private minting companies seeking a recognized sovereign name to legitimize the series.
KM# 1021 places this among a sprawling catalog of themed issues from the same period.
