Additional information

Fiji's legal tender framework has long been used as a vehicle for commemorative issues with no domestic relevance whatsoever — this piece is a straightforward example of that practice, produced for the European collector market under licensing arrangements common among small Pacific sovereignties. The Archangel Michael iconographic tradition it draws on originates in Byzantine ecclesiastical art, later codified in Russian Orthodox canon.

The Swarovski crystal inlay program was a marketing collaboration between several European mints and the Austrian crystal manufacturer, active across dozens of issues from roughly 2008 onward.
