| Obverse description | The sixth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, depicts the crowned bust of Her Majesty facing right, wearing the George IV State Diadem and the Victorian Coronation Necklace. This memorial obverse was adopted following the Queen's passing in September 2022 and bears the regnal dates 1952–2022 in the legend. The surrounding inscription reads ELIZABETH II 1952 - 2022 AUSTRALIA 2023 5 DOLLARS, with the designer's initials JC appearing below the portrait. |

| Reverse description | A richly colored scene depicting Emperor Penguins (Aptenodytes forsteri) in their Antarctic habitat. In the foreground, a full-color adult Emperor Penguin stands prominently to the left alongside a juvenile chick, both rendered in naturalistic detail on the edge of an ice floe. Behind them, a colony of penguins recedes toward an icy cliff rendered in frosted relief. To the right, the vivid blue waters are animated with penguins captured mid-dive and swimming beneath the surface, conveying dynamic movement. The legend EMPEROR PENGUIN arcs across the upper field, with the fineness notation 1 oz .999 SILVER inscribed to the right, and the designer's initials AWB appear in the lower left field. |

| Additional information |
Australia's "In the name of" series assigns legal tender status to coins struck for Antarctic Territory under the Australian umbrella — a jurisdictional oddity that makes the Emperor Penguin the nominal authority on the obverse. The 6th portrait of Elizabeth II, used here, was introduced by the Royal Australian Mint in 2023 and remains in circulation on new issues despite the Queen's death in September 2022, as Commonwealth mints worked through approved portrait transitions on their own schedules.
