| Reverse description | A finely detailed rooster stands in profile atop a rocky outcrop amid grass, facing left with its beak raised, against a rising sun in the lower right of the field. To the right of the central device, the traditional Chinese character 雞 (Rooster) is inscribed vertically. The date 2005 appears to the left, while the inscription 1/20 OZ 9999 GOLD is engraved along the lower portion of the field. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

The Perth Mint's Lunar Series I ran from 1996 through 2007, with each annual animal issue struck in a fixed window — unsold stock was not carried forward, which created genuine scarcity variations across the run. The Rooster year fell mid-series, by which point collector demand had steadied enough that mintages were better calibrated than the early issues, though the 1/20 oz denominations consistently attracted less attention than the 1 oz coins and have since proven harder to locate in original capsules.
