Additional information

Brisbane City Hall, completed in 1930 after a decade of construction disputes and cost overruns, was nearly demolished in the 1970s when the city council seriously debated replacing it with a car park. The building survived, though by 2012 it had just emerged from a major structural restoration — a timing the Royal Australian Mint's 'Town Halls' series quietly acknowledged by including it that same year.

The antiqued aluminium-zinc-bronze finish is not decorative whimsy; it was chosen across the series to evoke aged civic architecture rather than the brightness of bullion.
