| Obverse description | The fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modeled by Ian Rank-Broadley, faces right wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The legend ELIZABETH II encircles the upper field, with AUSTRALIA and the denomination 5 DOLLARS positioned below, flanking the date 2000. The engraver's initials IRB appear truncated at the base of the portrait. The bust is draped and rendered in a refined, contemporary sculptural style consistent with the Rank-Broadley portrait adopted across Commonwealth coinage from 1998. |

One of thirty-two individual coins in the Royal Australian Mint's Sydney 2000 Olympic series, this issue was produced using pad printing — a technique borrowed from industrial ceramics and watchmaking — to apply colour directly onto the struck silver surface. The RAM deployed it here at unusual scale, making this among the earliest large-format national mint programs globally to use the process on legal tender coinage.
