Additional information

The Sydney 2000 series ran to dozens of individual releases, and the Royal Australian Mint's use of pad printing on .999 silver — applying color directly onto the struck surface rather than using enamel or cloisonné inlay — was still relatively novel for Australian commemorative coinage at the turn of the millennium. The technique allowed mass production of colorized proofs at a price point accessible to the casual collector market, which the Mint pursued aggressively during the pre-Olympic buildup from 1999 onward.
