Additional information

Australia's platinum koala series launched in 1988, the same year the Perth Mint transitioned this program from the Australian Gold Corporation's marketing umbrella into a standalone bullion product targeting Japanese and North American investors. The 1/20 oz denomination was the smallest in the four-coin annual set, designed to lower the entry price for platinum buyers at a moment when the metal was trading at a significant premium over gold.

The third portrait of Elizabeth II, by Raphael Maklouf, was adopted on Australian coinage in 1985 and remained current until 1998.
