Reverse description Central design features the New Zealand Coat of Arms rendered in a stylised composition, displaying a quartered shield with emblems representing the Southern Cross stars, a ship in full sail, a fleece, and crossed hammers, with the royal cypher E surmounted by a crown at the centre. The shield is flanked by Maori-inspired decorative koru scrollwork panels and framed by an ornate arch above, all within a beaded inner border. The commemorative legend 40th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CORONATION arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination FIVE DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower periphery, each flanked by decorative cross stops. The entire design is executed in high-relief proof finish against a mirror-polished field.
