Additional information

Part of a broader commemorative series issued by the Cook Islands — a jurisdiction with no meaningful connection to medieval crusading history, but one that has long licensed its coinage authority to overseas minting operations producing collector-targeted silver rounds. This piece marks the Third Crusade of 1189–1192, the campaign launched after Saladin's capture of Jerusalem in 1187 that drew Richard I of England, Philip II of France, and Frederick Barbarossa into an ultimately inconclusive contest — Acre was retaken, but Jerusalem was not.
