Additional information

Palau has issued collector silver under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, farming out subject matter — cathedrals, marine life, religious sites — to European minting houses targeting the thematic collector market rather than any domestic monetary need. This piece belongs to that output: a coin with no meaningful circulation history and no connection to Palau beyond the issuing authority on the legal paperwork.

Cologne Cathedral took over 600 years to complete, from the laying of its foundation stone in 1248 to the final spire work in 1880 — making it one of the longest continuous building projects in architectural history. UNESCO added it to the World Heritage List in 1996.
