Palau's marine-themed silver program, launched in 1992 with the country's first commemorative issues, became one of the more commercially successful Pacific island coinage series of its era — driven almost entirely by collector demand rather than any domestic monetary need. The clownfish issue appeared the year after the release of Finding Nemo, a timing that was almost certainly not accidental.
