The Marshall Islands began issuing commemorative coinage in 1986 under authority granted by the Coinage Act of that year, quickly building a catalog of themed collector pieces targeting the American market. This Mustang issue appeared during Ford's sustained celebration of the pony car's anniversary years, with 1994 having marked the model's thirtieth year in production.
