Palau has issued commemorative silver in some peculiar directions, but this piece honors the DS 19 — the hydropneumatic-suspension Citroën unveiled at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, where it drew 12,000 orders on the first day of exhibition. The DS went on to carry Charles de Gaulle through an assassination attempt in 1962 at Petit-Clamart; the self-leveling suspension kept the car drivable after two tires were shot out, almost certainly saving his life.
