Reverse description The reverse displays a finely detailed bust of the Apostle Bartholomaeus in right-facing profile, rendered in high relief with flowing hair and beard in a classical style. He is depicted holding a book, an attribute traditionally associated with him as an evangelist, alongside a knife, the instrument of his martyrdom, both visible in the lower left field. The name BARTHOLOMAEUS is boldly inscribed within a raised rectangular banner arching across the upper portion of the puzzle-piece-shaped flan. The composition is designed to interlock with companion pieces from the Christ and the Apostles series.

Additional information

Liberia's Central Bank produced an extended run of religious themed silver issues through the mid-2000s, largely marketed through European and American telemarketing and direct-mail channels rather than through conventional numismatic distribution. These were collector pieces from inception — struck for export revenue, not domestic circulation. The Christ and Apostles series covered all twelve disciples across individual releases, making Bartholomew one of roughly a dozen near-identical strikes differentiated only by subject.

Mintage controls on this series were loosely documented, and secondary market premiums over melt have historically been thin.
