| Obverse description | The field is dramatically divided into two contrasting halves: the left rendered in a matte finish and the right in a highly polished mirror field, evoking the duality of oppression and hope. At centre, the crowned Public Seal of Niue is depicted within an ornate wreath, surmounted by a royal crown, with crossed spears below and a ribbon bearing the legend ATUA / NIUE TUKULAGI. Strands of barbed wire and heavy chains occupy the lower portion of the field, rendered in high relief, symbolic of political repression. A flock of birds in flight rises from the broken barbed wire toward the upper left, symbolising liberation and freedom. The denomination legend FIVE DOLLARS arcs along the upper rim, with the Czech Mint mark at lower left and the designer's initials MH at lower right. |
