The Leviathan coin is part of Niue's ongoing licensing arrangement with the Perth Mint, which produces a substantial portion of the island's commemorative bullion program. Niue itself has no mint and a population under 2,000 — its numismatic output dwarfs its GDP contribution from any other sector. The selective gold plating on this piece is applied after striking, targeting specific design elements with a separate electroplating or gilding process before final quality inspection.
