Additional information

Niue has served as a licensing vehicle for privately designed commemorative programs for decades, with the actual creative and commercial control sitting entirely outside the island's government. This Knights Templar issue is part of a long-running series produced for the collector market, bearing Charles III's effigy as a matter of contractual convenience rather than any meaningful royal or territorial connection.

The Templar order was dissolved by papal decree at the Council of Vienne in 1312 under pressure from Philip IV of France, who was deeply indebted to the order and had engineered the heresy trials that preceded suppression.
