Reverse description A dramatic high-relief scene depicting the assassination of Julius Caesar on the Ides of March, 44 BC. Caesar, wearing a laurel wreath rendered in green color, is shown falling or collapsed on a tiled floor as three toga-clad senators surround him, two brandishing golden daggers raised in striking poses and a third standing to the right holding a dagger at his side. A classical Roman architectural backdrop features columns, arched doorways, and a temple portico in the middle distance, populated by additional robed figures. The legend IDES OF MARCH appears within a rectangular cartouche framed by a laurel branch at the top of the design, and the entire scene is bordered by the same Greek meander pattern as the obverse.
