| Reverse description | The reverse, also bordered by the ouroboros motif, presents a richly detailed alchemical scene in high relief with selective gilt highlights. The bust of the Swiss-German alchemist and physician Paracelsus dominates the upper field, his stern visage framed by curly hair, leaning forward over a large gilt alchemical flask or alembic; a green Swarovski crystal is set at his chest. Within the vessel, a winged homunculus child rises from gilt swirling liquid, while mythological creatures including a dragon, a lion, and various grotesque figures crowd the lower field around the base of the flask. An outer annular legend reads HOMUNCULUS PARACELSUS, and the background features an engraved alchemical star-compass diagram. |
