Additional information

Château de Chambord was built under Francis I beginning in 1519, though the king spent fewer than forty nights there across his entire reign. The castle consumed such extraordinary resources that Francis allegedly offered it as collateral during his captivity following the Battle of Pavia.

This fractional gold belongs to a now-familiar category of Cook Islands issues: sub-gram bullion struck nominally for a Pacific territory with no meaningful local circulation, produced entirely for the collector market.
