Additional information

Phorusrhacos was a South American terror bird — a flightless apex predator standing roughly 2.5 meters tall — extinct for approximately 2 million years and native to Patagonia, with no geographic or historical connection to Equatorial Guinea or Bioko Island whatsoever. This is a bullion-adjacent novelty issue in a long series of Equatorial Guinea exotic wildlife coins, a country with essentially no domestic coin-collecting tradition, produced almost entirely for the international collector market through European distributors.
