Additional information

Buçaco, fought in September 1810, was Wellington's sharp repulse of Masséna's army as it attempted to force the ridge road into Coimbra — a battle the French so thoroughly mishandled that Masséna lost roughly 4,500 men against fewer than 1,300 Allied casualties. It settled nothing strategically; Masséna simply flanked the position and Wellington fell back to the Lines of Torres Vedras. Palau has issued dozens of these Napoleonic-themed five-dollar silver pieces, most tied to round anniversaries with no particular numismatic rationale beyond the collector market.
