Additional information

Authorized under the Bald Eagle Recovery and National Emblem Commemorative Coin Act of 2006, this issue directed surcharge proceeds toward the American Eagle Foundation and the National Eagle Center. Congress had already removed the bald eagle from the Endangered Species List in 2007 — the coin arrived almost immediately after, timed deliberately to the delisting.

Mintage was capped at 100,000 across proof and uncirculated formats combined, and the series underperformed projections at the time of sale.
