Liberia ran an extended series of wildlife-themed collector issues through the 1990s under licensing arrangements with the American Zoo and Aquarium Association's Species Survival Plan — a captive breeding program established in 1981 to coordinate genetic management across accredited institutions. The SSP branding gave these pieces a veneer of conservation credibility, though the coins were produced for the collector market rather than general circulation, and Liberia had no direct connection to giant panda conservation programs.
