Reverse description The reverse depicts a richly composed scene evoking the ancient Roman city of Aquileia, its key elements arranged across the field. At centre left, the Capitoline Wolf (Lupa Capitolina) suckles the twins Romulus and Remus atop a plinth decorated with a frieze, flanked by Roman columns in the background. To the right, a large mosaic fragment bearing a stylised human face is rendered in fine detail. In the lower right, an ancient Roman coin bearing the portrait of Emperor Nero is depicted in relief. At the base of the design, a cabochon-cut red amber insert is set into the coin. The legend AQUILEIA arcs prominently along the upper rim.
