Additional information

Liberia has operated as a vehicle for the international commemorative coin market since the 1970s, issuing pieces with virtually no connection to Liberian history, economy, or circulation. This Lincoln piece was produced for the collector trade — almost certainly by a European contract mint — timed to the 2009 bicentennial of Lincoln's birth, with Liberia's name on it simply because the issuing authority could be licensed cheaply.

None of these pieces entered Liberian commerce.
