Obverse description The obverse bears the national coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia at center, depicting a three-masted sailing ship approaching shore, a palm tree, a rising sun, a plow, and a dove in flight, all within a shield supported by scrollwork. A banner across the top of the shield bears the national motto, while a second ribbon at the base reads REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The date 2009 is divided across the lower field flanking the arms. The peripheral legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper rim, and FIVE DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim, the whole bordered by a beaded inner circle.
