The Solomon Islands achieved independence from Britain in 1978, and the Central Bank was established that same year to replace the East Caribbean Currency Authority arrangements that had served the protectorate. This 1986 series was among the early issues produced entirely under that independent banking mandate, with Thomas De La Rue handling production as they did for the majority of newly independent Pacific territories in this period.

P#14 is distinguished within the series by a single diagonal watermark band — relatively sparse security for the mid-1980s, even by regional standards.
