Obverse description The national coat of arms of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a sailing ship on the sea beneath a radiant sun, with a dove in flight above, flanked by a palm tree and a plough within a decorative shield surmounted by a ribbon bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2005 divided across the lower field on either side of the shield. A second legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA appears on a banner beneath the shield. The coin is struck in proof finish with frosted devices against a mirror field.

The legend BEIJING 2008 arcs along the upper periphery in bold lettering, referencing the host city of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
