The 1997 series marked a design refresh for the Solomon Islands note program, with Thomas De La Rue continuing their long relationship as the islands' printer of record. De La Rue had produced Solomon Islands currency since the Central Bank's earliest issues, making this a quietly routine commission for a firm that managed dozens of such Pacific territories simultaneously.

Pick 19 carries only a watermark as its listed security feature — modest by late-1990s standards, when many comparable Pacific island issues were already incorporating security threads.
