Additional information

The Marshall Islands began issuing commemorative coinage in the late 1980s under a licensing arrangement that turned the republic's mint authority into something closer to a novelty production house. This Camaro piece is part of a sprawling series celebrating American automotive history — a subject with no geographic or historical connection to the Marshall Islands whatsoever. The coins circulated as legal tender in name only; none entered commerce in any meaningful sense.

The first-generation Camaro debuted for the 1967 model year as GM's direct response to the Ford Mustang, which had been on the market since 1964.
