| Obverse description | Green and pink bicolour note with THE CHARTERED BANK in bold letterpress across the upper centre, flanked by circular guilloche rosettes and corner numeral '5' medallions. The bank's royal arms vignette occupies the lower left, while the central field carries the promise-to-pay text, the denomination FIVE DOLLARS, and the issue date HONG KONG, 9TH APRIL, 1959. Two manuscript signatures of the Accountant and Manager appear above the lower serial number, with Chinese characters for the place and denomination rendered at the lateral margins. |
