Obverse description The obverse is executed in intaglio, with portrait vignettes of two bank officials set within guilloche-bordered oval frames at left and right. A central medallion carries the numeral "5" over an elaborate guilloche underprint, flanked by the denomination in letterpress at lower centre. The issuer's name appears in bold serif lettering across the upper field, with the date "Toronto, 3rd Jan. 1939" above, and two facsimile signature lines for the General Manager and President below the central vignette.
