Obverse description The obverse is printed in black and green intaglio on a fine guilloche underprint, with two oval portrait vignettes flanking a central numeral panel: an elderly gentleman in a suit at left and a younger man in a suit at right. The ornate bank title 'The Bank of Nova Scotia' arches across the top centre in elaborate script lettering, above the promise clause 'Will Pay to the Bearer on Demand', with the date 'Jan. 2nd 1935' and place 'Halifax, N.S.' inscribed below the central '5 / FIVE' medallion. Two facsimile signatures appear at the bottom, captioned 'PRESIDENT' and 'GENERAL MANAGER' respectively, with repeated '5' corner numerals and a border of fine geometric lathe work.
