Obverse description Dark green intaglio print on a fine guilloche underprint. At left, an oval vignette with a portrait of the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) in military uniform, facing three-quarters right. The centre bears an ornate numeral '5' within an intricate lathe-work panel, flanked by the denomination 'CINQ DOLLARS' below and the bilingual bank title 'BANQUE DU CANADA' at the top, with the legend 'PAIERA AU PORTEUR SUR DEMANDE'. A circular medallion with a maple leaf motif appears at the right, and the place and date of issue 'OTTAWA, ÉMISSION DE 1935' are printed along the upper border.
