Reverse description Printed entirely in green, the reverse centres on a circular vignette of the bank's heraldic arms flanked by elaborate lathe-work guilloche rosettes. The denomination is worked into the design on each side as split lettering reading "FI5VE", integrating the numeral into the word in a style typical of American Bank Note Company engraving. The bank name "THE MERCHANTS BANK OF CANADA" appears in a panel along the lower border, with corner numerals "5" repeated at each angle.
