| Obverse description | Green and black intaglio-printed note with the bank title in large ornate lettering across the upper centre, flanked by two portrait vignettes — a bearded gentleman to the left and another dignitary to the right. The denomination 'Five Dollars' appears in an elaborate guilloche panel at centre, with serial number positions marked 'No.' on either side, above the place and date inscription 'Halifax, Nova Scotia, 1st June 1894.'
